March 2015

Lorenzo Abundiz photoGreetings, and welcome to the official website of the Code 3 for a Cure (C3FAC) Foundation.

We have some exciting events happening soon. I am pleased to announce the Code 3.1 Fire Run on April 25 in Brawley, California, benefiting C3FAC. As always, the Brawley Firefighters Association plans on going big with finisher bracelet bands, trophies, event T-shirts, and other freebies. They are also adding a 1 mile run/walk route for children and those who do not wish to run the 3.1 mile course. There will be vendors, food, live entertainment and booths as well. Our thanks to the Brawley Firefighters Association for their tremendous support in organizing this wonderful fundraising event. You can visit the event website for details.

For the first time this year, C3FAC will be in attendance at FDIC in Indianapolis, Indiana April 23-25. We thank Phenix Fire Helmets for sponsoring our attendance at this, the largest fire training conference in the world. We look forward to meeting fire personnel from around the United States and the world. We also look forward to meeting with representatives of Dräger. Dräger has climbed on board this year as a major corporate sponsor of our cause, joining forces with us in our mission to address firefighter cancer, and we look forward to working closely with Dräger in 2015.

Once again this year, Theresa and Dan Oldham, along with an amazing group of volunteers, are organizing the Mo Hawk Less Cancer Benefit, taking place in Gages Lake, Illinois on September 12, to raise funds for C3FAC. This great event continues to get bigger, and will again be held at the popular Jesse Oaks. Mo Hawk Less Cancer is held in loving memory of Kevin Oldham, who will always be an integral member of the C3FAC team. Kevin was a Waukegan Firefighter for ten years and was diagnosed in April of 2010 with stage IV inoperable pancreatic cancer. Kevin felt humbled and blessed by the support he and his family received. So, before he died, only a short eleven months later, his wish was to help bless others struggling through illness or tragedy and inspire us all to live with faith and purpose no matter what our circumstance. He believed that through GIVING, you can help change someone’s life. Kevin certainly has. Read more about Kevin.

On October 24, the Hampton Fire Department will conduct its Third Annual Hometown Heroes 5k benefit. Once again this year, it will be a charity fundraiser for C3FAC. Our gratitude is owed to all the members of the Hampton Fire Department for their outstanding support. Again, C3FAC will be attending this event with the C3FAC fire engine, kindly provided by Brindlee Mountain Fire Apparatus, who also kindly provides apparatus for the Mission of Honor and Hope and many other C3FAC events.

As a matter of information, C3FAC is a centralized, nonprofit 501(c)3 public charity located in California and does not recognize, nor does it endorse, any chapters or affiliates.

For the latest updates about C3FAC, please visit the Updates page of this website, the C3FAC Twitter page, and the official C3FAC Facebook page.

For those of you who are interested in becoming involved with helping the C3FAC cause, there are many ways in which you can do so. Additionally, companies and organizations can become a corporate hero for the cause.

On behalf of myself and the C3FAC Board of Directors, we want to thank all of you who share our vision, and have shown your support for C3FAC. We wish you all a safe, healthy, and happy spring season.
