Greetings of the Season! During this time of reflection, we here at Code 3 for a Cure are filled with gratitude towards all of the donors and supporters who have made it possible for us to continue to fulfill our purpose of providing financial assistance on a nationwide basis to firefighters (whether salaried, paid call, or volunteer) who are battling cancer and facing a financial hardship. It is only because of you that, since we began issuing funds in June 2012, we have incrementally increased the amounts being issued and have not had to decline any request for assistance or initiate a waiting list; and we have faith that, with continued contributions from individuals, groups, locals, and corporations, we will never have to initiate a waiting list, and the amounts issued will continue to increase. Learn about firefighter cancer rates and why issuing funds to firefighters battlling cancer is a major aspect of Code 3's purpose. Any firefighter who has been diagnosed with cancer and is in need of financial assistance can email us at: firstname.lastname@example.org for the financial assistance application form, as well as information on the criteria for receiving assistance. Funds are issued based on level of funding available. There is no requirement on the part of recipients to repay the funds issued, and they can reapply six months from the date of issuance.
Special recognition and thanks is owed to our biggest supporters this year: the National Fire Velo Cycling Club; Mo-Hawk Less Cancer and all of its event sponsors; eDispatches; Team Firefighter; Firefighter Jake Jacobsmeyer and the Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge; Brindlee Mountain Fire Apparatus; Firefighter July Miller-Lane and the Code 3 Boot Camp sponsors, especially STS/Scott's Training Systems; and all the firefighter athletes who have represented our cause this year, in particular our National Ambassador Katrina Silvia, Alex Murray and his "Running For Our Brothers/Sisters" team, Cielo Acosta, Rick Van Tuyl, Ethan Dade, and the Code 3 Cancer Terminators team. We also want to recognize and thank Melissa, the newest and youngest Code 3 Warrior, who is working hard to raise funds for Code 3 in celebration of her 14th birthday. In her words: "I want to let my Dad's fire brothers know that their sacrifice is known, appreciated, and did not go unnoticed."
For those of you who have not yet contributed to Code 3 and are in need of a tax deduction, please consider our cause as a great way of achieving that. Because we are a nonprofit 501(c)3 public charity, all contributions are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by tax laws, and you will be helping firefighter heroes at the same time. You can donate here. Don't need a tax deduction? Consider supporting our cause by purchasing a t-shirt or challenge coin from our online store. You can also become involved by setting up a fundraising page for Code 3. Learn more.
Our CODE 3 BOOT CAMP will be held on Sunday, December 8. A great workout for people of ALL ages and fitness levels under the guidance of fitness experts while helping firefighters battling cancer, a souvenir for all participants, t-shirt for first 50, and an official Code 3 patch for all who sign up on our event page by December 6, show up at the event and pay their donation only entry fee! We also have lots of great prizes lined up for the silent auction, thanks to the event sponsors, as well as great activities for the kids. So come on out and join us on December 8 at STS/Scott's Training Systems in Chandler, Arizona, for this great fitness charity fundraiser for Code 3.
We would like to congratulate and thank some amazing firefighter athletes who represented in November. Firefighter Alex Murray (Team Leader, Running For Our Brothers and Sisters) did an awesome job representing on ABC News 4 Charleston's Lowcountry Live, which you can watch here; Firefighter Rick Van Tuyl achieved Ironman Arizona for the third year in a row; and our National Ambassador, Firefighter Katrina Silvia, achieved Ironman Florida--for the second year in a row--donning her gear for the marathon portion--and beat last year's time. Watch her amazing finish. Look for updates on the future races of these and other Firefighter Warriors on our Updates page, Facebook, and Twitter. And please, like and follow us while you're there.
